Due to its rich aroma and fragrance, violet essential oils have been used since ancient times for their therapeutic and healing properties. It’s a native to Europe and parts of Asia but today it is extensively cultivated worldwide. Violet essential oil has strong, green, leafy note with delicate floral undertone. It is Greenish brown in color. Botanical name of violet essential oil is "Viola Odorata".
Aroma of this essential oil is relaxing, soothing, comforting and also inspiring. This essential oil blends well with Tuberose, Jasmine and other floral Clary Sage, Benzoin, Cumin, Basil, citrus oils, Sandalwood, spices, Geranium and Lavender.
Violet leaf absolute or viola odorata is a precious product. It is a solvent extract of the violet leaf. Up to 1400 kg of violet leaves needed to produce 1kg of concrete, which in turn will yield about 38% absolute. It is used in high-class perfumery. This is the leaf not flowers absolute and does not have a traditional violet flower fragrance. The scent is believed to comfort and strengthen the heart.
It is useful in skin care, especially good for oily skin, refines the pores. It contains salicylic acid (mild pain reliever) and acts as a sedative, a liver decongestant, and a circulatory stimulant; it helps in treating aging problems of the skin, blackheads, and enlarged pores.
Violet is one of the many (scented) essential oils used in aromatherapy. Essential oils are generally used in very small quantities, e.g. measured as a small number of drops of the essential oil in a larger quantity of appropriate carrier oil. Violet is one of the lesser known/used essential oils.
It has the following properties:

- antiseptic
- decongestant
- diuretic
- expectorant
- laxative
- soporific
Concrete and absolute oils are extracted from the fresh leaves and from the flowers, the resulting oils having different physical characteristics and it main constituent are nonadienal, parmone, hexyls alcohol, benzyl alcohol, ionone, viola quercitin.
