Marjoram, botanically known as Origanum marjorana, which normally has a warm, slightly spicy smell and is colorless to pale yellow or amber in color. Marjoram essential oil is extracted from the fresh and dried leaves and flowering tops of the plant by steam distillation, its consistency is thin and it is in the middle of the perfumery note. Marjoram essential oil is described aromatically as herbaceous, sweet and woody with a campherous, medicinal aroma. Marjoram essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing but should not be used during pregnancy. The Constituents of marjoram essential oil are Alpha-Terpineol, Terpinen-4-ol, Sabinene, Linalol, Sabinol, Thujanol, Citral, Linalyl Acetate, Camphor, Carvacrol, Estragol, Eugenol, Myrcene, Phellandrene, Pinene, Alpha Terpenene, and Beta-Caryophyllene. Marjoram essential oil has a warming action and calms emotions, relieves anxiety as well as stress and helps to calms hyperactive people. It has good muscle relaxant properties and the pain killing properties that are useful for rheumatic pains as well as sprains, strains and spasms. It is also very effective on swollen joints and painful muscles. Although essential oils blend well with one another, marjoram oil blends particularly well with lavender, cypress, cedar wood, chamomile, bergamot, eucalyptus and tea tree.
