Lavender, botanically known as Lavendula officinalis, is normally clear with a tinge of yellow color. Lavender oil is an essential oil, derived from plants by steam distillation of the flowers, its Consistency is thin and it is in between the middle and top on the perfumery note. Lavender aromatically described as fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous, and slightly fruity. Lavender essential oil helps in high blood pressure and also in headaches and rheumatism. It helps to maintain cardiac disorders and also efficient with vertigo, nausea and insomnia. It is an anti-depressant and a sedative and it is a great balancer for the nervous system and helps to calm one down. Lavender oil is popular since ancient times. It has a wide variety of uses. The oil is widely used in aromatherapy to ease tension, tiredness and feelings of depression. Lavender is gentle yet powerful in healing properties and it is used for burns and insect bites. Like an adaptogen, it encourages balance for the entire nervous system. It has been used for nerves, migraines, headaches, tension, emotional stress, sore muscles or tense muscles. Other uses include benefits for the skin, immune and circulatory systems. Blended lavender oil, when used for massage it produces a relaxing, calming effect. A few drops of the oil in a hot bath will relieve anxiety and produce a pleasant drowsiness. In a cool bath the oil will refresh and energize. Lavender oil is recommended facial oil for troubled skin. It conditions acne and gives temporary relief to relative symptoms. Unlike most essential oils lavender does not need to be diluted before using it, in some instances. A few drops on a pillow can aid the healing process, protect the skin from infection and improve sleep. Sniffing its light, floral aroma through a cotton wool pad helps calm frazzled nerves, decreases anxiety and calms the mind and body. Massaging with lavender oils or adding the same to a warm bath helps decrease muscle pains caused by tension, exercise or rheumatism. Menstrual pain can be also alleviated by gently massaging lavender over the lower abdomen, in a circular motion. Being so gentle, it is ideal to use on children and babies, to help prevent childhood infections and to soothe temper tantrums and upsets.
