Jasmine, botanically known as Jasminum Sambac, normally is of a deep brown with a golden tinge color. Jasmine oil starts it journey as a 'concrete', which is made by solvent extraction, after which an 'absolute' is obtained from the concrete, by separation with alcohol. The essential oil is then produced from the absolute by steam distillation, its consistency is medium and it is in the middle on the perfumery note. Jasmine is aromatically described as warm, floral and exotic. Jasmine essential oil neutralizes unpleasant odors (pets) and is helpful for emotional disorders, it stimulates the mental condition, is useful for listlessness and indifference and works very well for anxiety and depression. It is an aphrodisiac and it warms the soul. Jasmine is perhaps best known as an aphrodisiac. Very little scientific data supports this practice but that doesn't stop people from sprinkling the blossoms on the marriage bed of newlyweds or aroma therapists from prescribing the essential oil for severe sexual inhibition. Jasmine has long been regarded as a "woman's oil". Traditional Chinese medicine and the Indian system of Ayurveda both use it extensively. Some experts recommend it to be massaged into the abdomen to ease the pains of childbirth. Jasmine is also thought of as a natural antidepressant. Aroma therapists believe that it's especially effective for people suffering symptoms of apathy and fatigue. They believe that jasmine works, in part, by reducing fears and opening up emotional pathways. It has a very beneficial effect on the respiratory system, by soothing irritating coughs and helping with hoarseness and laryngitis. It furthermore helps with muscle pain, sprains, and stiff limbs. Jasmine oil tones dry, greasy, irritated and sensitive skin, increases elasticity and is often used to assist reduce stretch marks and to reduce scarring. The therapeutic properties of jasmine oil are anti-depressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, anti-spasmodic, cicatrisant, expectorant, galactagogue, parturient, sedative and uterine.
