Grapefruit, botanically known as Citrus Paradisi, is normally of either a pale yellow or light ruby color. Grapefruit oil is extracted from the fresh peel by cold compression, its consistency is thin and it is top on the perfumery note. Grapefruit aromatically described as Citrusy, similar to lemon and reminiscent to the aroma of the grapefruit rind, but more concentrated. Grapefruit essential oil is noted for its astringent properties and it's an appetite suppressor, it reduces stress and helps with focus and clarity, aids circulation and varicose veins, prevents flu and it's a natural air purifier. The main chemical components are a-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, limonene, geraniol, linalool, citronellal, decyl acetate, neryl acetate and terpinen-4-ol. Some of the therapeutic properties of grapefruit oil are antidepressant, antiseptic, aperitif, diuretic, disinfectant, and lymphatic stimulant, tonic and anti-infectious. Grapefruit has high content of vitamin C and is therefore helpful to the immune system. It helps to defend against colds and flu; it has a very positive effect on obesity and also has diuretic properties, helping to remove excess water from the body and is therefore also great for treating cellulite. Grapefruit essential oil has a heartening effect on the mood and helps reduce stress and depression. It is used with great accomplishment to fight muscle fatigue and stiffness while stimulating the lymphatic system and thereby clearing the body of toxins. It helps to clear crammed oily skin and also help out with acne, while toning the skin and tissues. Grapefruit is used in hair care to promote hair growth. Grapefruit oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing and although listed as non-photo toxic, it can irritate the skin if exposed to strong sunlight after treatment. Although most essential oils blend well together, grapefruit essential oil blends particularly well with bergamot, lavender, geranium, palma rosa and frankincense. This stimulating oil helps to increase digestion, benefits the immune system, helps with skin problems, and can be used for muscle stiffness, water retention and for bolstering the nervous system. In vapor therapy grapefruit oil can be used for hangovers, headaches, over indulgence, mental exhaustion and depression. Grapefruit essential oil can be used in a base cream, lotion or as a wash to clear a greasy, crammed and acne skin, while also helping the tissue get rid of cellulite and drain any excess retained water.
